I'm breaking my web hiatus to post this terrible news. My life is so full of good news usually, but I didn't feel the need to post any of that. This news really needs to be posted and remembered.

Rob Dorris ObituaryRobert Wesley Dorris, 65, on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 spread his wings and departed this world to join his soul mate Glenda Christine Giles. Rob was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, April 20, 1949. The eldest child of George and Jodie Dorris, he lived an eclectic life of adventure and love. Before retiring from City of Austin in 2010, Rob was an accomplished sound and lighting engineer having worked with Austin City Limits and SXSW and is still known in some circles as Lighting Director for Armadillo World Headquarters. He married Christine in 1989 at the Harrington House in Buda and remained deeply in love until the time of his passing. He is survived by his sisters Gwen Dorris, Nancy Crow, and Donna Stowell; his sisters-in-law Arlene MacQuarrie and Elaine Troughton; nieces and nephews Caleb Crow, Anthony Stowell, Dana Crow, Jason Troughton and daughter Jenna, Doug Troughton wife Coreena and son Andy; and a vast network of friends including his lifelong friend Ward Winnette. Rob was dynamic and inspirational. His unique combination of technical knowledge and artist's sensibility was expressed in his relationships, music, photography, and embodied in the South Austin neighborhood he called home for the last thirty years. A Celebration of Life will be held at Zilker Club House on Monday April 20, 2015 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local animal rescue or wildlife sanctuary.
